Designed for the Busy, Overwhelmed, or Out-of-their-Depth Dog Owner

What is a Board and Train Program?

  • This program is designed to provide an immersive training experience for your dog. Your dog will come to my home, not a facility, and be integrated into my pack, merging into my day-to-day life. After all, your dog lives in a home, they should be trained in a similar environment.

The nature of this program ensures that your dog is getting trained 24/7.

A board and train program does all of the heavy lifting for you. You don’t need to do several training sessions per day and dedicate hours per week like Private Sessions. You don’t need to drive through bumper-to-bumper traffic to meet at a park somewhere.

I’ll do everything for you and update you along the way, providing pictures, videos, and most importantly - education so you know how to keep up with training when your dog gets back from training.

This program is tailored and crafted to your dog specifically, your goals as a dog owner and the dream life you want to live with your dog.

Here at Team K9 Training, no two board and train programs are the same, because no two dogs are the same.

  • This program isn’t a magic wand.

    No dog training program is.

You WILL need to make lifestyle changes. Not only in your environment but also in your interactions with your dog on a day-to-day basis.

Just because I do the heavy lifting for you, I bring you 90% of the way - it’s your job to get to the finish line through the consistency of implementing simple training protocols you’ll be provided.

You can expect owner education and instruction while your dog is with me along with an in-depth 2 to 3-hour Go Home Session for you to practice the training protocols and reinforcement of training once you return home.

  • While every single board and train program and dog is different and therefore personalized as such, you can depend on certain obedience commands to be taught.

    • Sit”: This will help you in situations where you need your dog to stay near you in stimulating environments like parks, and near roads and aids in polite greetings.

    • Down” This will help you during socialization sessions, bringing your dog to public spaces, aids in mental stimulation, and is used for safety in certain situations.

    • Come”: Also known as “recall” is one of the most important commands to ensure safety and security. This command will allow your dog to experience freedom and fulfillment in exploring the world safely and will give you peace of mind.

    • Place”: One of the most versatile and used commands in dog training, this command helps hyper dogs, provides safety when socializing, and mental stimulation, and has a variety of other use cases.

    • Heel": The most desired of dog training commands - this will allow you to have that loose leash walk of your dreams. No more pulling and lunging on walks

Then we’ll also work on remedying the specific and individual problems the dog is struggling with like confidence, anxiety, fear, or hyper-activity. We’ll also work on owner-focused issues like removing counter surfing, trash diving, destructive chewing, digging, and other nuisance behaviors.

  • The most important aspect of any dog training program, regardless if it is Private Lessons, Group Classes or even a Board and Train - is dog owner education.

However, the primary benefit of a Board and Train program is…well think of it this way:

    • You can learn how to build a computer while simultaneously learning how to operate it - OR - I can build the computer for you and simply teach you how to work the keyboard, mouse, the best software to use to accomplish your goal and set you up for progressing in success as you get better at using the computer.

So for you, dog owner, I won’t spend hours charging you money to teach you the intricate science of Operant and Classical Conditioning, Reinforcement Schedules, Differential Reinforcement, the Impact of Hormones, and the Critical Development Period on behavior.

Instead, I’ll teach you functional and practical methods and techniques based on the science of dog training.

You’ll learn foundational dog training theory to help you long term and understand the WHY behind the HOW of dog training- but then you’ll learn the hands-on application of practical dog training.

You can anticipate being guided step-by-step on how to reinforce all obedience commands. I’ll first demonstrate what your dog has learned and then hold your hand as I teach you how to upkeep what your dog has learned.

  • When you enroll in a board and train program, you won’t need to go and purchase a laundry list of items as an additional cost on top of the training program.

I’ll obtain the following items for you and include them in the cost of the board and train program:

    • EZ-900 or Mini Educator Ecollar System (Value: $199-$220)

    • Herm Sprenger Prong Collar (Value: $29-$42)

    • Elevated Dog Bed (Value: $29-$37)

    • Treat Pouch (Value: $7-$15)

BONUSES: You’ll also receive the following assets included as a bonus when you enroll in any length of Board and Train Program:

    • Exclusive Board and Train Graduate Learning Portal (This portal is only available to graduates of my board and train program and is filled with video, photo, and text resources to help keep all training education fresh in your mind)

    • Go Home Workbook (This workbook follows along with the 2-3hr Go Home Session and is complete with training trackers, visuals and more)

    • Access to Boarding (Team K9 Training only accepts dogs who have completed a Board and Train program for boarding. During boarding, your dog gets a refresher on all training - kind of like a mini Board and Train. Value: $50/day)

How Do I Know if a Board and Train Program is For Me?

If you…

  • Do not have a lot of time to invest in training your dog every day

  • Have a dog with training issues you feel are outside of your capabilities

  • The behaviors your dog displays create big emotions in you like suffocating anxiety leading to a ‘freeze’ response, intense anger, or frustration perhaps even sadness and a sense of “giving up” when these behaviors are displayed from your dog

  • Are willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes once your dog comes home - these things could be changes such as crating your dog at night, providing enrichment regularly, going on structured walks, practicing obedience regularly, using the training tools conditioned during the board and train program and similar such changes.

A Board and Train Program is NOT For You If…

  • You are looking for a magic button to push, and no work will need to be done

  • Seeking someone to tell you what you want to hear

  • Promises or guarantees training results for the life of your dog

  • You want a small investment cost

  • Aren’t willing to take responsibility for the role you play in your dog’s behavior

What Does a Board and Train Process Look Like?

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your dog needs to be at minimum 6 months old and they must be potty trained.

If possible we would like for your dog to be 8 months old.

  • Nope! A dog can learn at any age and stage of their life.

You CAN in fact teach an old dog new tricks.

What IS more challenging is how long the behavior we are trying to change has been reinforced for.

Think of it like this: if you are right handed and suddenly you had to do everything from brushing your teeth, writing, driving, etc with your left hand - it’s going to be more challenging if you’re 60yrs old vs if you’re 7yrs old.

  • Any breed, any age.

However, for larger breeds such as a Great Dane, St. Bernard, Great Pyr, etc - we may require that you bring your own crate that fits them.

For any other dog breeds that are not an XL dog breed, Team K9 Training has crates and all other dog training equipment provided for.

  • Yup!

Dog training is an investment, and most times it is a larger one.

We believe that dog training should be as accessible as possible.

During your on-boarding, your Training Agreement will have an option available for a payment plan - you will select the dates and amounts and your card will be automatically charged on those dates for those amounts.

  • None.

It is a massive red flag for any dog trainer to offer a “guarantee” of behavior from a sentient, living and breathing entity.

The success of your dog is highly predicated on the owners ability to follow through with training once the dog is home, leveraging the resources provided to ensure that you will reach success.

However, your dog will be able to do the behaviors as outlined on the Training Agreement.

At the Go Home Session, we CAN promise that your dog will understand the basic obedience commands as long as the owner follows the training process as the Dog Trainer guides them to do during the Go Home session.

For example: if the Dog Trainer says you need to only say “Down” and you instead say “CanYouPlaceLayDownForMe?” to the dog - the dog training will not work.
